Current state of research and teaching activities

My research field is combustion chemistry and environment measurement using laser spectroscopy. Now I am interested in biofuel combustion and N2O, NH3, HCN and HNCO measurement in automobile exhaust gas and CO2 or CH4 stable isotope measurements in atmosphere using wavelength modulation spectroscopy or cavity-ring down spectroscopy.

Subject of research

  1. Development of the stable isotope measurement methods using near-IR laser spectroscopy The ratio of stable carbon isotope in CO2 or CH4 indicates the source of CO2 or CH4. In order to measure the real-time change of the stable carbon isotope ratio in CO2 or CH4, we construct the measurement system of the stable carbon isotope in CO2 or CH4 using wavelength modulation spectroscopy or cavity-ring down spectroscopy at 2008 nm or 2400 nm region. 2012/04-2013/03

  3. Combustion study on the new biofuels Using a new catalytic biomass-liquid process to catalyze the conversion of both fructose and glucose into 5-hydroxymethylfran, high yield of 2,5-dimetylfuran (DMF) has been demonstrated. As an alternative biofuel, DMF exhibits a number of attractive features such as high volumetric energy density (31.5 MJ/L), high octane number (119). However, autoignition mechanism is not well understood. Therefore, in this study we investigate the ignition mechanism of furan and DMF.

The measurements of unregulated nitrogen oxide (N2O, NH3, HCN, HNCO) using high sensitive laser absorption spectroscopy Recently, unregulated nitrogen oxide such as N2O, NH3, HCN and HNCO emitted from automobiles and biomass combustion is a problem. Although it is necessary to monitor the unregulated nitrogen oxide in atmosphere, there is little measurement system of the unregulated nitrogen oxide. Therefore, in this study, the easy and compact-size measurement systems of N2O, NH3, HCN, HNCO is developed using wavelength modulation spectroscopy or cavity-ring down spectroscopy at near-IR or mid-IR wavelength region. Final goal of this study is to measure the unregulated nitrogen oxide in various environment and to suggest the reduction methods of them.
